it's actually probably some of the coolest temperatures we've had so far this year. good morning, everybody. i'm guvirdhindsa. feeling nippy out there today. >> we've got cool weather this morning which we're fairly used to, and really for today and the next several days, very cool conditions across the area. i think some people, your julie wrights and maybe steve would say cold, as a matter of fact. let's look at the current temperatures across the region. we are in the 40s at reagan national airport. currently 49 degrees. dulles international is at 48 and bwi marshall is at 45 degrees this morning. definitely jacket weather. you'll need that as you head out the door. here's the satellite-radar. a fair amount of cloud cover over us. we had clouds move in yesterday a couple of breaks in the sun is expected but now it's pretty cloudy. i think today will be a mostly cloudy day. you see some precipitation down to the south, most of that

remains south. more precipitation out to the west, and eventually we get a couple of sprinkles and showers moving in here. not during the day today, though. becoming quite cloudy, much cooler. high today only in the mid-50s. we're going to have more details about the forecast coming up in just a little bit. all right, tony. thanks so much. we do have some breaking news that we're following this morning. parts of i-95 north in maryland are shut down right now after a big truck crashed. that interstate is closed near the rest stop in laurel. maryland state police say two tractor trailers were parked on the right shoulder at the rest area when another big rig came upon them and slammed into those parked trucks. nobody was hurt that we know of right now. we want to check in with julie to see if there are any other areas to avoid this big mess this morning, julie. >> reporter: yes, ma'am. it occurred about an hour or so ago on i-95 north of 216 at the car restrea, the truck rest area if you will. the northbound side of the

highway remains closed and again, this is i-95 coming out of laurel, heading northbound, headed out towards jessup and columbia. if you have an early flight out at bwi this will definitely affect your commute. your options include route 1, 29 and the washington parkway. the only thing working in your favor is traffic volume is light right now. there's not too much of a backup at that location but coming frothe beltway headed up towards baltimore you'll want to use all the mat routes to baltimore national parkway or 21 to avoid this closure. southbound all lanes remain open. here we are live at beltway, 650, new hampshire avenue, light traffic continuing into silver spring. no incidents germantown to the split. 66, a quiet drive out of manassas. fair oaks headed in toward the beltway. that's a check of your on time fox 5 traffic. julie, thanks very much.

our top story this morning, residents say they feel like they are living in a war zone. two people died, three more were hurt in a shootout. sara simmons is live with more on the search for suspects. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, guvir. police say they have a very general description of the suspect. they are on the lookout for a black s.u.v. with tinted windows. it's unclear how many suspects they are looking for. all police have to go on is that there were a car-led of people in that black s.u.v. they are told this is a drive- by shooting. it happened at 4:00 in the afternoon in clay terrace ere in northeast. neighbors say that they think thisis an ongoing beef between two rival neighborhoods. police are saying that the hail of gunfire ended yesterday afternoon with five teenagers shot. two of them dead, one was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are releasing their names this morning.

15-year-old devonta artist and 18-year-old dayquan ti bbs who died in the hospital overnight. police are saying clay errace in hunter wood have had this beef going on for several years. the police chief and mayor also arrived at the scene yesterday appearing very frustrated. saying that just six months ago that they had made several arrests for guns and drugs in that neighborhood. they were really trying to get in and clean things up and they say this is just evidence that there is more work that needs to be done, starting with finding those killers. >> were there some witnesses to this? >> guarantee there's witnesses. it's 4:00 in the afternoon. there's a couple hundred people out here. there's definitely witnesses and you know, it's somebody's child today, somebody else's child tomorrow unless they come forward. >> now, police are stepping up their patrols in the clay terrace neighborhood to kind of keep an eye on things there. they are also obviously very concerned since this is a beef

going on between two rival neighborhoods, they are concerned about possible retaliation. we are live at headquarters, sara simmons, fox 5 news, back to you. in prince george's county police are investigating an accident in the 600 block of central avenue in capitol heights. several cars were involved but investigators are not sure how it happened. one person died in the crash. two others were hospitalized with serious injuries. the future for the u.s. national soccer team player remains uncertain after the deadly crash on the tw parkway in arlington. u.s. national team forward charlie davies is in serious condition after undergoing several hours of surgery at washington hospital center medstar. davies and two others were in the southbound lanes of the gw parkway yesterday when the car left the road and hit a tree. one woman was killed. the u.s. team including davies, a 23-year-old starter was in d.c. for tonight's game costa r

he was in violation of team curfew. there's been a major milestone reached in the health care battle. the senate finance committee passed the bill by senator backus, including cuts in medicare. this bill would cost $829 billion over ten years and requires most americans to buy premiums. the congressional budget office says it's going to sure 84% of eligible americans not including the so-called public option, and it calls for co-ops to compete with private insurers. >> good afternoon. as a result of these efforts we are now closer than ever before to passing health care reform but we're not there yet. >> when it's all said and done, 25 million people will still not have any insurance. >> reporter: republicans argue the bill makes huge cuts in medicare and will lead to health care rationing. olympia snowe crossed party

lines to vote the measure. separate reform bills will be joined. >> one cohesive piece of legislation eventually. marion barry checked out of howard university hospital after staying there a week for dedration and infection but he returned monday night after having an allergic reaction to seafood soup. he was released yesterday afternoon. turning now to troubling new information about the swine flu. a cdc report says almost half of all patients hospitalized with the swine flu did not have a chronic illness before they got sick. another new report puts the average age of a patient hospitalized with h1n1 at just 32 years old. and the average age of a a person who dies at 40. the cdc says its best way for anyone, including kids to prevent getting the swine flu is to get the vaccine. you can get your questions answered about the swine flu and seasonal vaccine all morning long. we have a flu shot phone bank with doctors on hand to provide

a huge call for immigration reform on capitol hill. after lobbying congress, congress is expected to take up the controversial issue this fall. similar rallies were held in 20 cities across the country. president obama holds his fifth top-level meeting with his administration today over the situation in afghanistan. he's going to be back in the situation room this morning trying to decide whether more

welcome back. you might want to grab that jacket today because it is really chilly throughout this morning. >> i'm going to show you a temperature that we've got in gaithersburg, 39 degrees right now. >> i figured. >> we've got some 30s out there. most of us are in the 40s. we'll show that to you in a moment and it is going to be a cool day the next few days. cool, chilly, and a couple of days coming up rather raw. here are your headlines. clouds return. in fact, we've got cloudy skies right now hanging and all day. chill returns today after a day in the 70s yesterday. got up to the low 70s, which was fine. that was really nice. rain arrives tonight, i think late tonight into tomorrow.

and finally, an early nor'easter. looks like it could be brewing, and that could make things rather dicey for us towards the end of the week and going into the weekend. the temperatures that jump out to me, gaithersburg, frederick, 39 degrees there. man, cold this morning. 49 here in the district. 48 down in quantico. baltimore is at 45 degrees and culpeper is also 45 degrees this morning. satellite-radar, i want to show you a couple of ings there. this is the cloud cover that we have. high pressure over the great lakes keeping it precipitation from moving north. that's pushing to the east, and you can see some of that is going to gradually make if its way to the mid atlantic area. that's when we could see some rain showers develop in our region. late tonight during the overnight hours into the early part of the day tomorrow. so the forecast for today looks like this. we've got cloudy skies, much cooler today as opposed to the low 70s. mid-50s today, and in some areas probably the low 50s.

so a very cool day. then for tonight, cold temperatures across the region, 45 degrees. cloudy skies continue. some late showers are possible. take a look at the five-day forecast. this is not the most attractive five-day we've ever presented. tomorrow we think we're to the going to get out of the 40s. our highs will be in the upper 40s. rain tomorrow, breezy friday. cool, 50 degrees. rain, so kind of a raw day, and it looks like we have a chance of rain saturday and sunday as well. that's a look at what's happening with the weather. now let's find out what's happening with traffic with julie rogers. julie? >> reporter: all right, tony. the big story this morning has been the trip along northbound i-95 as you work your way up towards 216 in the car rest area. as guvir mentioned earlier an up can have tractor trailers got tangled up in an accident. another vehicle involved there at this time. northbound remains closed coming out of laurel headed towards jessup you'll want to stick with route 1, 29 or the

washington national parkway and use those alternates. southbound everything is open. no problems reported from 695 all the way down towards the capitol beltway. we've got the lanes open here southbound 270 out of rockville headed out towards the split. nice easy ride so far. overnight construction being cleared on the northbound side. as you travel north of 370 headed into germantown. no incidents to report 395 northbound aduke street. we're still at speed as you continue towards the 4th street bridge. 95 in good shape headed into woodbridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on time traffic. voters in virginia head to the polls in three weeks and the candidates are working nonstop to pick up votes targeting women, a critical voting block. a poll gives congressman bob mcdonald in the lead by 7 points. we caught up with him yesterday on the campaign trail in fairfax county. >> reporter: in tyson's corner republican bob mcdonald

courting the women's vote, makes up 54% of the electorate. >> people want real solutions to real problems. i think they are tired of backwards-looking negative campaigns. >> reporter: but for weeks, mcdonald's own record on women's issues was being looked at. a 20-year-old thesis paper critical to women came to light and as that campaign controversy eased, another one took its place [ audio not understandable ] >> reporter: that is sheila johnson, the democrat turned mcdonald supporter caught on you tube imitating stuttering. in the first public appearance issuing an apology, she's crediting democratic payback for supporting mcdonald. >> i won't waste time and energy trying to live for someone else or letting anyone intimidate me because i crossed party lines. >> reporter: but johnson isn't the only one who's had to take

it is 5:30 on this wednesday morning. looking at traffic on the beltway at the american legion bridge, one of the trouble-free spots this morning, but there are some trouble spots out there. we'll check in with julie in a second. >> and a cold start to the day too. we have all of that. >> temperatures in the 40s, even a couple of spots in the 30s early this morning. it's going to be a cool one all day today. let's look at what's happening right now with current conditions being reported. here in the region in d.c. it is 49 degrees. relative humidity 54%. winds out of the north at 12 miles an hour so we have a little bit of a breeze and your pressure 30.24. here's your satellite-radar. we've got the clouds in over us this morning and where' going to continue to see mostly cloudy skies for today, maybe a ray of sun will peek through here or there. and we'll see a lot of clouds

it occurred near the rest area, northbound i-95. shut down just before you reach 216. all traffic right now is being diverted off at 216 because of this incident. again, can you see clearly on the map your options include 29 to the ft, that would be to the west, route 1 or 295 to baltimore washington parkway. they are all viable options for you this morning headed up toward baltimore, 695 or trying to catch afully out of bwi. you'll want to avoid northbound i-95. southbound from baltimore to the beltway your lanes remain open. we'll take you inside and show you what's happening on the roads. the pace is not so bad. lanes are open as you travel toward silver spring, headed around toward 270. all lanes open at the american legion bridge. quiet at duke street. no incidents headed to the 14th street bridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. >> thank you. our top story this morning hundreds of witnesses and d.c. police say it only takes one to come forward to help pull a

killer off the streets. >> there was a drive-by in broad daylight that left two people dead and three hurt. it happened on clay terrace in northeast, all of them teen- agers. sarah simmons has more on the victims. >> reporter: it was a shower of bullets that rang out on clay terrace and people would like to hear from witnesses because they are still trying to find the killers of those two young menace well as they who are in the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. police are relessing the names of the two teenage boys killed out there yesterday afternoon, 15-year-old devonta artist and 18-year-old dayquan tibbs who died from his injuries last night. police are describing this as a drive-by shooting with several guns involved, 4:00 in the afternoon at clay terrace. the courtyard was full of children at the time when the bulletstarted flying out there. neighbors are blaming this on a beef, a long-standing boff

between clay terrace and the people of huntwood. police chief kathy lanier and adrian fenty arrived on the scene yesterday, also voicing their concerns and frustration over the fact that just six months ago they had been out in this neighborhood and made several arrests due to guns and drugs throughout that neighborhood. now they are back out there dealing with this crime. and the people who live out there, day in and day out, they are just as frustrated. >> then they got the bodies laying out and some of these kids, 3, no more than 10 who witnessed that. that will be with them or the rest of their life. >> reporter: now, it is just a general description really that police have to go on right now saying that they are looking for the vehicle, a black s.u.v. with tinted windows and they are hoping someone can come forward. as you saw there were a will a -- lot of people out there at the time. police are stepping up patrols

in that neighborhood in anticipation of any possible retaliation between those two neighborhoods. live in northeast, sarah simmons, fox 5 news. back to you. thank you. the future for a u.s. soccer team player is up in the air after a car accident in arlington. charlie davies is in serious condition after undergoing several hours of surgery. davies and twenty other passengers were in the southbound lanes of gw parkway when their car hit a tree and split in half. 22-year-old ashley roberta of maryland was killed in the crash. the 23-year-old starter was in d.c. for the world cup qualifying game against costa rica and davies was in violation of team curfew when the crash happened. there's been a big step forward in the health care battle. the senate finance committee has given the green light to one reform proposal. here as how the key vote broke

dehydration but monday night he apparently left a seafood soup and had an allergic reaction. he said he never had a reaction to seafood before but he went back to the hospital. doctors say it's not uncommon for allergies to develop suddenly. turning now to troubling new information about the swine flu. a centers for disease control and prevention report says almost half of all patients who were hospitalized with the swine flu did not have a chronic illness before they became ill. another new report puts the average age of a patient hospitalized with h1n1 at just 32 years old and the average age of a person who dies from h1n1, 40. the cdc says the best way for anybody, including children to prevent getting the swine flu is to get the vaccine. if you have questions about the swine flu and seasonal vaccine, we have doctors on hand to answer those questions all morning long. we're going to be holding a flu shot phone bank. it will go from 7 this morning until 10:00 this morning so

making headles this morning president obama will meet with his national security team again today to talk afghanistan policy. it's the latest of five meetings on the situation there. as the president considers sending more troops and tries to determine his strategy for that area. another meeting is planned for next week. insiders say one of the reasons the decision is taking so long could be the still unresolved presidential vote in afghanistan and charges of election fraud. ford adds millions of more cars to an already massive recall list. this is due to a defective cruise control switch. now 4 1/2 million more ford vehicles, link ons and mercuries have landed on the list. all vehicles covered by the recall are from the 1992-2003 model years. this is the 7th recall linked to this faulty switch. to see if your car is affected go to myfoxdc.com and click on web links gentleman another famous name is cashing in on michael jackson's latest hit. half the cash is going to paul

well. that's a look at the weather. we'll have more coming up in just a little bit. guvir and steve, back to you. >> tony, thanks a lot. there was a police chase a short time ago on the outer loop that stretched from near georgia avenue all the way into virginia and down to braddock road. that's where police say the vehicle they were chasing crashed, and that's where apparent low the bulk of the activity is now. julie wright has more. >> reporter: the beltway is shut down now at braddock road as a result of this police chase. we have a camera that's a live shot of 236. that's traffic headed out toward braddock road, about a mile and a half distance here. right now traffic volume is still light and there's no delay as far back as 236 but definitely something to watch out for. this is where you'll want to bail off the beltway, at 236. you could head inbound toward the city. that it turns into duke street. from there you can pick up 395 or you can head outbound and continue back into fairfax. but again, outer loop of the
